There will be a Dungun Open this saturday on 9th May 2009 at UiTM Dungun. I think this is a annual event coz I remember it was held last year and the year before that too.

I am encouraging all Kuantan Players to take part in the event if you are looking for placing or even a worth experiences coz East Coast top players will surely play in the event! Below are the details of the event :

2nd Round DATCC chess League on 29th April 2009

I took half day leave to take part in the DATCC league, and got straight home by bus at night juz right after the game ended.. Crazy me huh!? Since I was too busy with the income tax month in april, I forgot to bring my camera to KL.. Aduish!!!!

As I expected my team is playing against Nusa Mahkota team on table 4, and my assumption that Hairulov will be playing is correct too! Last night game is a battle between bloggers!!! hahaha.. it was a very interesting game, I planned it to be that way, but I ended it pretty bad, i cant seem to find the finishing touch to the game, so, I lost! I am sad though that I lost the game ( I mean really sad since the team got thrashed really bad by our opponents) but credit to Hairul who fought well!

Also saw players whom were absent last week took part last night, including Lim Yee Weng, Mohd Irman, Mohd Khair, etc...

I will be in KL again tomorrow for the Paralimpik Selection Games held at Sek Men Pendidikan Khas Setapak, hope I remember to bring my camera this time.

Full reports and results of both DATCC Chess League and the Paralimpik Selection will be posted once I am back in Kuantan.

My personal thoughts :

It will be an interesting Match since IM Lim Yee Weng is rumour to be playing, so GOLD IS will field strongest line up! But I also heard IM Mas may not be playing in the second round. The upset that Hazril Husin made against Kamaludin Yusof will make his next game against IM Jimmy or Abdullah Che Hassan is a moment to watch!

Cant wait to find out who will play as board 3 & 4 of the Tan & Tan team, coz, rumours is said that 786 will field up players that were absent last wednesday.

The battle for table 3 is a match of friends! If SMS Gold wants a decisive match the strongest line up of FM Ooi and FM Mok will be of certain!

I have no comment of DATCC and MBS KL, but I think DATCC will win this one!

PCWM still have not yet decided who shall play against Nusa Mahkota. My bet will be Hairul will play in the second round! If I am next in the ladies line maybe I shall play against Hairul - battle of bloggers! (hehehe)

Ilham lost to IM Mas in a very exciting game, so does the game of others in the team like Shamson Bahrin against Nik Ahmad, and Aziz Shukor against Abdullah.

Our team player, Tan Li Ting lost to Azman, Nabila won against Andrew, Khairunnisa won against M.Sirajuddin and Camilia drew against en Hamid.

On table 5, Kamaludin lost to Hazril Husin, Saprin won against Cheah (a very interesting game, to play the game click link Hairulov), Fairin won too, while NM Kamal drew against Chew Yaw Chong.

1st ROund of 1st DATCC Chess League 2009

When most players saw me at the DAT Chess Centre many were surprise to see me, asking when I arrived when will I be headed home. I juz said, well I am taking half day leave yesterday and will headed home that night coz I am working today. And currently I am in the office doing my works and catching up with my deadlines. Surprise! surprise! huh?!

I kept repeating that what I am doing is merely a small contribution for the Women in Chess movement that I was talking about. Our Persatuan Catur Wanita Malaysia will be formed soon, so, our future presiden decided to support the soon to be persatuan by sponsoring the Ladies Team for the Chess League. Kudos should be given to Roslina Marmomo our Kapitan, Haslindah Ruslan our Liaison Officer between the Team and the future presiden, the parents that supporting our future Women National Players, Parents of Camilia Johari, Parents of Nur Nabila and Nur Najihah, Parents of Tan Li Ting, and Parents of Nur Shazwani. Also to the Protem committees that has been doing the hard work in ensuring our first attempt playing in the league under the Women's flag!

There are 10 teams taking part in the league and yesterday players' meeting decided that we will be playing for double round robin tourney. The first of such ever that I will be taking part in. So overall for 18 weeks most us will be sweating, battling the wits every wednesday at DATCC and in the end we will find out who will be the winner of the 1st DATCC Chess League.

1st DATCC Chess League

The first DATCC Chess League starts today at 6pm!

I have heard that many best Malaysian players will be taking part in the event too. IM Mas, FM Lim Yee Weng, IM Jimmy Liew is among the players. Not to mentioned Kamaludin's team, Bloggers like Hairulov's Team. Also heard that, Dato' Tan will be playing too.

I will be taking part too, under the Persatuan Catur Wanita flag - PCWM Terang Bersih. However hope the team will not be expecting much from me, coz I havent played in a while, and the reason that I took part is merely helping out and give support to the Ladies, but no need to worry, as I will give it all out!. All the best to the girls!

Bandaraya Chessmasters Results

I dont have the full result... but as it was posted in the chess-malaysia yahoo group by Mr Narayanan, here are the team result :

The Phillipines team is consists of filipinos that resides in Singapore. Notable player is IM Julio Sadorra, a regular player in Johor chess scene as well as the Malaysian Open tourney.

I was informed that few Pahang players took part too in the event, however I do not know their scores but whatever it is, it is always good to know that the MSSPahang is sending the players to play outside of Pahang, which is good!

While the individual results is very interesting, most of the games played in the final rounds were do or die! most games ended in a historic blitzing all the way until the end! top tables game like IM Sadorra, IM Paciencia, Ian Udani, Palma, T.Mandar, Mark Weng Yee and others makes the spectators chilled in wondering who will take the top ten placing.

Why Puzzles?

For your info, the webmaster is targeting to reach 1000 puzzles to be given in this blog. Puzzles were taken from various info that we collect and some even without answers, but we managed to find out the answers before it is published for the fans to solve!

My personal view on puzzles is that, it does help one a lot in tournament preparation, as puzzles helps you to notice the real life situation much faster than not doing puzzle at all. As you noticed the puzzles given in two forms, the more difficult puzzles to solve are taken from a Russia book which have no answer at all, but before it is published the webmaster will do the solving first, so that there will not be any conflict. The puzzles were considered to be a good one, coz I once heard of a story about a USSR trainer migrated to America, taking along with him all his training lessons that was once the secrets of how USSR produces more GM players than the rest of the nations!

While the endgame puzzles were given to enhance the endgame training skill, which is considered important too, as what been told to me by a friend, GM Dao Thien Hai, when we had our chat during the KL open last year. We will disclosed the answer to the endgame puzzles in our posting immediately, but however, for the difficult puzzle, we will disclose the answer in the shoutbox.

The shoutbox is design as a tool to discuss the answer and your opinion towards the question is very important too to all the players that browse this blog. Because, indirectly you are considered a trainer too by providing simple coaching and teaching skills when you answer the puzzle.

Kuantan Players Result in NAG 2009

The two kids participation in the recent NAG 2009 achieved a good result compared to their very experienced "seniors" the their age group!

Nur Sabrina Aliya Asman scored 4 points out of 7 games in her U-10G category, which I personally considered that to be impressive since she managed to score average of 57% of total percentage! she does improves a lot! Sabrina was placed at no. 19th overall.

Her brother, Muhammad Firdaus Afiq Asman playing in the U-12B section managed to get 3 points out of 7 games. U-12B is a tough one indeed, most of the experiences MSSM players are there to compete, so, his achievement in the group is considered ok too.

Congrats to them! and keep up the good work! we shall see their first rating in the coming National Rating list.

In the last Jan 2009 national rating list, there were not many Kuantan Juniors in the list, but after the MSSM 2009, they have their own National Rating list, which give an impact of the measurement of their strength in the national level!

National Age Group 2009

As far as I know there will be two players representing Kuantan for the coming National Age Group event 2009 which will start this coming saturday and sunday at Level 2, Pearl Point Shopping Complex, Jalan Kelang Lama.

Nur Sabrina Aliya Asman will play in U-10 Girls event, while her brother, Muhammad Firdaus Afiq Asman will play in U-12 Boys events. Both players are the children of En Asman Amin. He is one of Kelab's AJK, and was once an active chess players years back. Like any other parent, I bet one shall be a happy parent if the children pick up the sports that was once played by the parent.

The children pick up chess back in 2007 when we had our first tournament here in Kuantan. Now they play better than before. And I hope in this National Age Group event, they will learn and experience as much as they can from the "seniors" there! and be the best later on!

1st DATCC KL commercial & Recreational Chess League

We are looking for Ladies player at whatever age to fill in two spot in the Ladies team for the coming 1st DATCC Kuala Lumpur Commercial & Recreational Chess League that will be held at DATCC kompleks Wilayah in Kuala Lumpur every wednesday beginning 8th April 2008 - 12th August for 19 consecutive weeks!

The League which will have maximum of 10 players but only 4 will be eligible to play each week, will start at 6pm every wednesday with a break in between maghrib prayer. This is a FIDE rated event, with time control of 90 min + 30 sec increment.

This is the first ever league held, with goal to have as much as FIDE rated event as possible in Malaysia. For us ladies, this is the platform to show your best as our Persatuan Catur Wanita will be formed soon to give many benefits to all Ladies out there!

The requirement for Ladies,
1. must be available to play at dates given.
