Kuantan Open 26-27 jun 2010

The above is the Map to Dewan KRT Berjaya Permai (click to en large the image for better view). Take the Tanjung Lumpur bridge from Kuantan town, just go straight along the road until you find a landmark - Pusat Tenun Pahang, then turn left at the traffic light. Go straight again until you another landmark on the right SMK Sungai Soi. Near to the school is Perumahan Berjaya Permai.

I am back in Kuantan today (thurday), and since I am here, I'll be taking over from the tournament director the registration job. Those who is interested to play, register with me. You can email me at nwmchess@yahoo.com or you can sms me at 019-9699879 or you can fax your registration to me (attention my name) at 09-5147688.

Those who has register and make the payment, you can come to the playing hall (Dewan KRT) at at 10am before round 1 started at 10.15am. BUT for those who register and without any payment made yet to the organiser, kindly be at Dewan KRT for registration from 8.30am - 9.30am. We will close the registration at 9.30am to ensure that game will start on time at 10.15am!

I am encouraging players, parents, guardians and teachers to be there on the 26th June for the PERSATUAN CATUR KUANTAN meeting at 12.30 noon, as everyone can give ideas and give a thorough discussion on how to make chess better in Kuantan! During the meeting I will make the announcement on the opening of my chess centre that I will name it after the name of my siblings' team which is SETIA CHESS CENTRE.

NCC 2010 - Ranking list

Finally the NCC 2010 is over, after 5 days battling for the NM and the NWM title and the top 4 spot to play at the Malaysian Masters, it is ended today.

We witness NM Tan Khai Boon and NWM Fong Mi Yen joining the elite NM and NWM club today!

Here, I am signing off from Kolej Pendeta Za'ba UKM (will still be in KL attending courses and will only be back in Kuantan on the 24th June 2010).

NCC 2010 - FInal Round Update!

Fong Mi Yen drew her game with Camilia Johari, thus makes her the newly crowned National Woman Master (NWM) for 2010. Tan Khai Boon also won his game against Nik Ahmad Farouqi, and that too makes him the new National Master (NM) for 2010.

Alia lost! Fong Mi Yen got her revenge this time around. Will there be a new champ this year? more NWM will be produce perhaps?

Nabil and Loo drew their game, same as Fadzil Nayan, Edward Lee also drew their game. This lead to Nabil being a sole leader with half point lead. Kamal Ariffin drew his game today with Izz while Khair did it again! losing a game that he is not supposed to! he lost to Tariq Amru.

Its going to be an intense battle in the women section as Fong Mi Yen vs NWM Alia. I think the winner of this round shall be the NCC champ (shall I say that?). Based on the current strength I think Alia is much better, but surely Mi Yen wants the revenge for her defeat in Semi-Final of Malaysian Women Master earlier this year.

In the Open section - Surprise Nabil is the only sole leader with 4 points so far. But 8 players followed closely behind with 3.5 points. Among them are Edward Lee, Fadzil Nayan, Li Tian, Saprin, Khair, Tariq Amru, and Tan Jun Fen.

Sad News at NCC 2010

Found out this morning, Cikgu Fuad, father of Muhd Sirajuddin and Fairuz Hamizah the young chess prodigy from Kulim Kedah, was under stroke attack last night. Fairuz was crying during her morning game, coz they both stay in hostel separately, therefore she only found out this morning.

The last time I heard he is in a critical condition and admitted at Hospital Serdang. I juz hope he is ok... Lets all pray everything is ok.

NCC 2010

Announcement made by En Ibrahim Bakar - VP MCF, top 4 from each event at NCC will be selected to be at Malaysian Masters Elite Top 16 event (same format knock out round like the World Championship knock-out).

The Champ in OPEN event will be automatically selected to play for Malaysia in the coming Chess Olimpiad at Khantuy-Mansyik in Oct 2010.

National Chess Championship 2010 - Round 3

Today is the second day of NCC 2010. As up to round 2 yesterday, all favourites went thru. Below are the pairings of round 3 :

Khair is playing on board 1 currently, against the top seed from Penang, Loo Swee Leong. Both with 2 points each. Hopefully he won this.





Board 1 is using the newly introduce in Malaysia - DGT board. I dont have to go next to him to see his game live. I can juz watch it from the arbiters' table.

Congrats to Amier Hamzah And Zainoor Ikmal Maisarah!

What can we all say... But dozens of congrats for our juniors that repeat the same victory like WFM Najiha and WCM Nabila last year. Congrats to Amier Hamzah for the Candidate Master (CM) title, and congrats to Zainoor Ikmal Maisarah Mohd Noor for being the silver medallist in the rapid event.

Congrats to the contingent! (congrats to Haslindah too for being the manager twice that brought the medal back home!)

National Chess Championship 2010

National Chess Championship or previously known as National Closed, will be held at UKM this year. I dont play this year (as much as I wanted to - coz I do plan on taking part), but I got better offer instead. I will be there at UKM as the arbiter of the event, if I have the time to write I will keep the readers updated.
