MASUM 2011 - Final Round

UMP vs UTeM

UPNM vs UPSI

USM vs UTM. If Looi Xin Hao wins this game, then UMP's Zarul will get the best board.

UPM vs UKM. Decisive for Bronze

UNISZA vs UM. I guess Silver will be good right Syazwan?

UUM vs UIA. Definitely gold for UIA! Clinching it from UM this year!

UM vs UPM. Even if UM wins this, Gold would still be a dream.. they are giving away the gold they maintaned for 5 years in a row!

UNISZA vs UPSI. THis will be an easy task for UPSI... my guess 4-0!

UMP vs UTM (taken from the back row)

MASUM 2011 - Special Thanks!

A very special thanks to NM Zarul Shazwan, who has been there for the team, helping out with the coaching and analysis (since 2008 - 2011). It is so unfortunate that he never got the taste of medal in his life with UMP, perhaps he will in another uni when he further his study doing master after this.

MASUM 2011 - Final Day (29/6/2011)

For the first time today we put our new player to play on board 2. Playing aginst UNISZA.

UKM vs UUM

Same with the ladies - UKM vs UUM

UiTM vs UM. UM currently falls in the second place, hoping for any upsets to UPSI perhaps?

UPM vs UPSI. UPSI is in a strong position to win the GOLD this year!

While UIA is doing strong in the Men's section facing the host UPM.

Like the ladies, UM Men's team is following closely behind UIA, hoping any upsets on the UIA. Here UTM vs UM.

Our UMP is facing USM. Their strong line up is Looi Xin Hao, the player that qualify to play for Malaysian University in the Universiade Asian that is to be held in Shenzen, China somewhere in November. He will be playing there together with Fadzil Nayan (UIA) and 2 others.

Our third board and fourth board - Qhaider and Yusof.

Men's standing.

Women's standing.

If you click the chess-result, the list of our players are :

UMP Men's team :

1. NM Zarul Shazwan Zulkafli

2. Muhd Muhaymin Min

3. Husaini Hasnul

4. Muhd Qhaider Zulkifli

5. Muhd Yusof Abdullah

UMP Ladies's Team :

1. Norazlianie

2. Nur Farhana Atiqah Amir Hafidz

3. Hasinah

4. Ayu Annur Fetrah

5. Ummu Syafiqah

6. Siti Ros Aishah

Most of the players will be graduating this year. I am calling all SPM leavers with chess playing skill up to MSSM level, join UMP as a students and play for UMP in MASUM 2012 as well as GACC 2011 to be held in UM annually.

MASUM 2011 - Sad Day indeed

It is a very sad day for UMP both in round 4 and round 5. As it is not juz made me stress.. but suddenly i am depressed! I felt as though i have difficulty catching up my breath, low blood pressure, my heartbeat was at a very low pace... huhuh.. really a sad day.

The ladies was devastated after a 0-4 defeat by the UPSI team. And what make it worst, they are losing a winning game! one player that can actually win if she make full use (activate) her Bishop, and she didnt move it till she resigned! one player out of a blue give a free Rook (nothing threathening the Rook in anyway! one player doesnt even show any effort to press the clock and make any lightning move in only minutes to finish (she play like there's still tomorrow, never mind time can wait for everyone)! and one player who got the chance to break the game, keep on waiting for the opponent to strike! WHY??

While I am upset with one guy in the team that instead of taking the opponent Knight, he decided to move away the King (out a blue), because he is so scared of the Knight doing the fork! WHY?? (if you take the Knight there wont be any fork!)

Then in a very somber mood (still not recovered from the 4-0 defeat earlier), the ladies were paired against UiTM, and guess what?they lost with the margin 3-1. And the guys who supposed to win against UPNM only managed to drew 2-2.

One of the ladies - playing by herself, and got checkmated within 10 moves, one - make the same mistake that she make in round 3!, one - waiting her own time to drop in a position clearly only one or 2 pieces have exchanges! i mean- WHY??

One guy- lost to a game in a King-side attack (in which when me and Zarul did the post mortem, we clearly told him, that if he counter, there wont be any time to do the King-Side attack!), one - play by himself (too lazy to think off other options!) WHY??

And the "best" part was, they apologise to me? Why? why apologise? Are you playing in MASUM for me or for yourselves?

Few of the managers / coaches here said to me; "its ok, my team lost too"
I reply; "did they lose without a fight?"
they said; "..........no, they fight till the end and then lose"

Based on the situation mentioned earlier, did they actually give it all out? did they fight till the end? did they give any effort? I can still remember, how Zarul actually said to one of them "Resign the game!!!" because her losing game that she still playing affected one of the UMP that was sitting besides her.

It was really hard, coz i dont have the energy anymore to scold, to get upset, or in the mood to teach...I am really terribly down at the moment, because, they kept repeating the same mistakes over and over again! Like i said, i dont mind if they lose the game, as long they lost with dignity (fighting till the end)...

MASUM 2011 - Pic of round 4

UPSI vs UMP Ladies Team, juz as predicted, UPSI paired their strongest against us.. But we are ready and paired ours too! I gave our 1st board - Farhana the line of KID to delay the Nf6 movement.. i do hope she got it.. While Ayu 2nd board wasnt surprise when UPSI's Kwan Tze Yeung played the 1. d4 c5, coz she got the lesson from IM Mas during the Serie C.. juz hoping the strategy works!

UPSI vs UMP Men's Team. We fielded our strongest line up with NM Zarul leading the pack followed by Husaini, Qhaider and Yusof.

UKM vs UNISZA

UNISZA vs UTEM

UUM vs UiTM

UM vs UPM with Muhd Syazwan leading the pack vs Alfred Ting

UTM vs UIA

USM vs UKM

UIA vs UM with UM's NWM Nur Syazwani (twin of NM Zarul) leading the team to bounce back on the top board.

UMP Ladies vs UPSI (in the pic is Siti Ros Aisyah - who was so lucky in her yesterday's game)

As usual before the rounds start we started ourselves with the Doa recite by Yusof. Juz as a reminder to ourselves that we can only try our best, the rest is up to Allah SWT. And before they walked to the hall, i would hug all the ladies players juz so to say that i care a lot about them... And if they win with UPSI, and i dont care with how many margin, lunch is on me!

MASUM 2011 - pic 27/6/2011 (2)

Only 4 players for UPSI, so we knew the default line up. We juz had to make our line-up who to play against who.
The list of the UPSI ladies. This is bit tricky coz we dont know who is their line up. My only guess would be for them to rest their 1st board, and put the Chinese player (heard she is from China studying in UPSI) to challenge us.. juz have to wait for tomorrow to find out!
The pairing for the Men's Team.

MASUM 2011 - pic 27/6/2011 (1)

The pairing for round 4
I guess the rest of the UMP's ladies were so surprised that our board 1 - Norazlianie did pretty well against UMP's Khairunnisa Izzati. Although I knew my UMP will lose the game coz of inexperience, but for her to show the fighting spirit to hold the game, gave the over-powering inspiration for the rest to turn the result and beat UMP in the end!
UMP's men against UNISZA. What can I say? to get upset and angry like last year would only cause me suffering (luckily i dont have any heart condition or high blood pressure)... this year i want them to feel the defeat themselves. What i can do it teach n teach n teach...
Our ladies from the bottom table point of view against UUM
We won against UUM 3-1, it shoud have been 4-0 if it werent for our 3rd board blunder!

MASUM 2011

From L-R : Duratul Ain (UKM's Manager), myself (UMP's coach), and Haslindah (arbiter for Ladies Team section)
In the first round UMP was paired against top seed- UIA. Hoping for upset result, but unfortunately once our first board - NM Zarul lost, the rest resign soon after.. huhuhu
Our ladies also was paired against UM - top seed in the first round. I was hoping for some upsets too! and yeay! we manage to draw 2-2 with UM..

I am currently at MASUM 2011, under the UMP flag as the chess coach for UMP team. I wont be around at the centre from 25th June - 4th July. After MASUM ended on the 29th June, I'll be heading straight ahead to KL for Arbiter course from 30th June - 4th July.

Up until 3rd round, the ladies team seems to be doing great with 2-2 draw with UM, second round win against UUM 3-1 and third round won against UPM 3-1. Impressive!

In round 4, they will meet second seed UPSI. It is tough, but hey, just play the best! if they want the medal so much this year, keep the winning momentum till the end!

On the other hand.... our men's team is not doing like what i assumed they would have. In round 1 they got white-wash with UIA 4-0, and becoz of the zero result they were bye in the 2nd round. And as i was hoping for a 4-0 thrash against UNISZA, they lost to 1.5 - 2.5! (what da h***)

Tomorrow they too will facing UPSI. Nothing can make me happier tomorrow, than the victory of both ladies and the men!

3 Gangsa Dari Nur Sabrina Aliya Asman

Berikut adalah game Nur Sabrina (courtesy from En Asman) :

Tahniah sekali lagi kami ucapkan!

Lagi Gambar-gambar SCC Serie C!

The final round to determine who qualify....
we all know Magnus likes to have orange juice with him thru out the tournament while, Wong Yue would put tiger balm besides him and Hou Yifan would always bring her drink filled with chinese dates to the table.. But I wonder, if that hair creme would save the day, Ng?
in every SCC Series (so far), we always have the battle of the day in the final rounds. And normally the first board would end up in a draw. But this time, IM Mas wants to make sure the title is his for sure playing against former National Champ - NM Zarul
