We Extend Our Congratulations!

Based on the comments in the shoutbox we also found out few other Pahang players performed well in the recent MSSM. Pahang won 6 medals in overall performance! Awesome!

Before this SCC congratulates only our PCDK members, but now we are extending it to:

Nur Aqilah Aishah, one of frequent player at any PCDK and SCC event, did her best scoring 5.5/6 in the team event performing undefeated on board 4 of Team U12G!

5th Kuantan Rapid Junior Master 2013

Our 5th year edition will kick off early this 2013, as compared to last year the event was held in the month of Oct, we are making a few twist to make it this 20th-21st APRIL 2013.

There will be two (2) categories; for Under Age 20 and for Under Age 10! (same format as last year)

We are still in the mid of conforming the venue for the event, finger cross that we are going have it at Dewan Astaka UMP Gambang Campus.

So mark your calendar and book your date for the 5th year Junior event!

We Are Moving Forward..

We are making few changes on our blog, strictly to accommodate new mood swing this 2013. With many things going on, SCC will be functioning with different target and approach. Juz wait and see for yourselves! :D

Perkembangan Positif Catur Di Kuantan dan Pahang..

Alhamdullillah, rasa bersyukur sangat2 kerana CATUR semakin berkembang di Kuantan dan daerah2 lain (terutama Kuala Lipis kerana mereka amat rajin menyertai kejohanan yang diadakan diluar daerah Lipis sepanjang tahun, juga beberapa individu dari daerah lain).

Bila saya memulakan kelas catur sekitar 2007, saya cuma ada satu sahaja niat dan matlamat - iaitu untuk mengajar pemain bermain lebih baik! Kerana ada terlalu banyak jurang diantara pemain disini dan pemain di sekitar KL or Selangor dan juga Negeri lain. Dan juga kerana saya agak geram apabila mengetahui corak 4 steps masih lagi dimainkan sehingga peringkat bawah 18 tahun! (gosh!)

Saya lebih suka konsep "chess as a tool in education". Saya amat gembira bilamana saya menolong ramai pelajar untuk lebih berjaya dalam pelajaran kerana menggunakan catur.

Saya amat bersyukur kerana dianugerahkan oleh Allah SWT kelebihan untuk mengajar, walaupun tidaklah sebaik mana dan sepandai mana berbanding mereka yang lain, tetapi bila dapat menyumbang sesuatu terasa betapa bertuahnya saya kerana menjadi insan terpilih menerima anugerah Allah SWT ini.

Bila saya melihat kini kerja2 di Persatuan Catur Daerah Kuantan telah boleh dipikul oleh AJK yang lain, kejohanan catur telahpun boleh diagih kepada mereka yang lain, pelajar catur yang boleh berdiri atas kaki sendiri tidak lagi bergantung kepada saya untuk melatih, membuatkan saya mensyukuri yang Maha Esa. Serta berterima kasih kepada ahli keluarga yang memperkenalkan catur kepada saya, kepada abang dan kakak yang tidak jemu memberikan sokongan serta melatih saya dalam sukan yang amat saya minati. Kepada adik yang pernah menjadi rakan sparring sewaktu dia masih kecil dahulu. Untuk makluman semua,  saya tidak ada cikgu yang melatih saya, guru saya ialah keluarga saya, dan setiap lawan saya diatas papan.

Bilamana saya mendapat tahu ada yang cuba menubuhkan Persatuan Catur Pahang, membuatkan saya tersenyum sendirian dan berkata mungkin sudah sampai masanya untuk saya mengundur diri.. Sesungguhnya, kritikan, cemuhan, sindiran, kata2 manis, pujian dan sebagainya yang saya gagah menelan selama ini demi cinta saya kepada CATUR seharusnya berhenti setakat ini. (Alhamdullilah hikmah dari Yang Maha Esa pahit manis yang ditelan selama ini berbaloi jua...)

Selagi khidmat coaching diperlukan, SCC akan beroperasi seperti biasa menabur bakti. Berkenaan kejohanan saya masih lagi mencari ruang waktu untuk penganjuran di SCC. Berilah saya masa untuk menyusun atur pelbagai jadual peribadi yang tidak melibatkan catur sebelum mengorak langkah seterusnya.

InsyaAllah dengan AJK PCDK yang berdedikasi, dan bakal tertubuhnya barisan Persatuan Catur Pahang yang baru, saya percaya catur akan bergerak lebih cemerlang pada masa hadapan!

PCDK to National Age Group 2013.

It started off when parents started chit chat among themselves during tournament. Then they asked yours truly is it possible to gather a bunch of 20 kids to join the trip, I said yes!

Then we had our PCDK meetings with parents to discuss further. Sms were sent to many parents and school teachers that have supported PCDK through out the last 2 years. We were all so worried after not many turn out during the meeting. But as usual we wont want to give up (yet)..

To persuade parents to take their kids is not that easy, some did pay and register. And few days later withdraw. When we finally had names that confirmed, more bad news for us. There was this Zon tournament as qualification to play in MSSD Kuantan falls on the same date as NAG! Gosh! We almost thought the trip was impossible. Meetings were held with PPD Kuantan and PT Kuantan discussing the matter. Phew! Alhamdullillah.. The dates wont clash with NAG. And if it is, auto qualify is given to all that join the trip.

After weeks of planning, days of struggling to actually make this trip happening..finally on 31st Jan we depart from Kuantan at 3.30pm to UTP Tronoh Perak for NAG which was scheduled on 1st feb to 3rd feb 2013.

Many thanks to PCDK comittees namely en Asman, Pn Hamidah, en Nordin, en Ayib, to all parents and players! This trip will never happened without the support from all of you. My sincere thank you!

There are so many rumours and bad stuffs about yours truly were talked by so many others. And at one point it almost had me to stop chess and gave up.. But when i asked myself why i am doing this in the first place..The knowledge that i had inside me is not mine to own it..it is a gift from Allah SWT and He is The Almighty that decides when i need to stop. It might be today or tomorrow but i will never know. But one thing for sure, to see all those juniors playing, gave me the strength to go on and on...insyaAllah..

We Welcome Year 2013 With Hope For More Chess Success at Home!

What could possibly be the best way to celebrate new year - blitz! Seen in pic playing against me is my dear friend WGM Nafisa Muminova from Uzbekistan (she holds 3 IM norms and will get the IM title once her ratings reaches 2400. Currently she is 2349). She was in Kuantan since Sunday (30/12/12) to celebrate new year here. We played a good game of blitz chess and she gave tips on how to teach better chess and play better. According to her, parental support and self determination is the key factor to work hard and perform better in every tournaments she participated.
Well Nafisa we thank you for the chess tips and we welcome you again to Kuantan. Anytime dear friend! Have a safe journey back home! :)

Interesting last round battle for top 5 prizes. Noor Ahmad Fazilah vs Sulaiman Johari. Sulaiman has performed very well beating Nik Ahmad Farouqi and Abdul Haq before ended up losing the last round game against Noor Ahmad Fazilah. Seen in pic next to them is Mohd Yusuff Ismail vs NM Kamal Arifin.

2nd Kuantan Grand Finale - The Result

IM Mas Hafizulhelmi (from Kelantan) emerged as the champion in the 2nd Kuantan Grand Finale. IM Mas defend the title that he won last year with 6.5 points. IM Mas overcome all his rival except for Kamaluddin Yusof (Abg Bro) who managed to hold him for a draw. 2nd place goes to our very own Pahang player - Mohd Khair Wahidduddin with 5.5 points while 3rd place goes to Kamaluddin Yusof (Abg Bro) from Johor with 5 points. 4th place goes to Muhd Syazwan Zulkifli (from Terengganu) with 5 points and 5th place goes to Noor Ahmad Fadzilah (from Kedah) with 5 points.

With no single lost from IM Mas Hafizul, the bounty of RM100 for each round, will be brought forward for the next year Finale. PCDK meeting will decide later of how much bounty to offer next year as an incentive for other players to defeat IM Mas. He shall be back again next year as the Defending Champion.

With the conclusion of our 2nd Grand Finale, we closed the 2012 curtain for chess activities in Kuantan. We shall meet again next year with our 2013 Grand Prix Series (InsyaAllah), beginning as soonest as February 2013 with Serie A. Our hope next year 3rd Kuantan Grand Finale Rapid Chess Championship we can run the event in 2 days, with a different format and with a little twist to make the battle for the best top 5 to be more interesting!

A Day To Remember...

During the 2nd Kuantan Grand Finale at Vistana hotel, we received shocking news of the tragic death of Cikgu Sabirin and his family. It's hard to believe but we have to accept the fate from Allah. May Allah placed them among the believers. Al fatihah. Chess community especially in Dungun, Terengganu will missed dedicated Cikgu Sabirin and his family. Before the start of the event, all of us recite Al-fatihah for the late Cikgu Sabirin and family. Let us share with our readers an article from his nephew that touch our heart. On 24th December also marked a day to remember, while having breakfast at Putra Square with Nik Ahmad Farouqi, Muhd Syazwan, Haq and wife Roslina, suddenly it was raining so heavily non-stop. All of us thought that it will stop soon (as usual). But this time, Allah SWT is testing our faith. In minutes we saw waters pouring into the restaurant, Haq and Syazwan had to move their car to higher parking spot around the restaurant. While Farouqi was worried sick about his car which was parked at CIMB bank juz opposite Berjaya Megamall (which was hit severely by the flood). On behalf of all chess community, our sympathy goes to Nik Ahmad Farouqi because his car along with chess equipment that supposed to be used for the Kelantan Open this weekend was flooded in kuantan yesterday..
