Ranking after round 4 - DATMO 2009

Pairings of round 5 and results of rounds 4 - Ambank Chess Challenge

Ranking after round 4 - Ambank Chess Challenge

Ambank Chess Challenge saw, Samson Lim Jr from the Phillipines taking first place ranking after round 4 with 4/4, while Izz, Panopio, Ilhamuddin, and Cheah trailing behind with 3.5/4. The best ladies as at this moment is Renitha Narayanan with 2.5/4. Pairings for round 5 saw :

Table 1 : Izz Saifuddin (3.5) vs Samson Lim Jr (4)
Table 2 : Panopio (3.5) vs Cheah Cheok Fung (3.5)
Table 3 : Jax Tham (3) vs Nor Ilhamuddin (3.5)
Table 4 : Heng Fook Liang (3) vs Roel Abelgas (3)
Table 5 : Tan Kok Liang (3) vs Mat Zaki Yeop (3)

DATMO round 4 results saw all top 5 boards not taking any chances and only fight for a draw. One interesting draw that lasted late was on table 2, between GM Marat Dzhumaev (2535) vs Gao Rui (2491). Our Malaysians performance in round 4 :

On table 11 : IM Jimmy Liew (2299) lost to GM Ziaur Rahman (2538)
On table 14 : FM Mok Tze Meng (2343) drew against FM Igor Goldenberg (2404)
On table 16 : Ronnie Lim (2281) however lost to WIM Zhang Xiaowen (2391) - this is the controversy for the day. Ronnie claimed that he still got 30 seconds increment of his time, while Xiaowen claimed that she won on time. The arguments goes on and was witness by I think a person from FIDE, also the chief arbiter and tournament director. It lasted for a while, then finally with frustation Ronnie had to receive his defeat to Xiaowen.
On table 17 : Rustum Tolentino (2362) who is round 1 won against FM Lim Yee Weng, now won against another Malaysian - Yeap Eng Chiam (2108)
On table 18 : Our current rapid player in the Malaysian scene, filipino - Ian Udani (2241) won his game against Pak Yevgeniy (2359)
On table 19 : Wong Jianwen (1763) lost to Jia Haoxiang (2347)

Ranking after round 4 saw, 7 with 3.5/4 points. They are GM Marat (2535), GM Ehsan Ghaem (2589), Xiu Deshun (2515), Gao Rui (2491), IM Ronald Dableo (2417), Yu Yangyi (2510), Ma Qun (2319). While 15 others were following closely with 3/4 points. Among them are, defending champ GM Li Chao (2634), unrated and unknown to us Malaysian (at least to me) - Zulkhairi from Indonesia, GM Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, GM Negi also inlcuding Ian Udani. I am wondering whether GM Susanto and WGM Atousa shall bounce back right on track in the next coming rounds.

The best Malaysian so far :
FM Mok Tze Meng (2343) - 2.5/4
IM Jimmy Liew (2299) - 2/4
NM Ronnie Lim (2281) - 2/4
Yeap Eng Chiam (2108) - 2/4
Wong Jianwen (1763) - 2/4
Sumant (2043) - 2/4
Gerald Soh (2088) - 2/4
Abdullah Che Hassan (2142) - 2/4

There was a dinner tonight in welcoming all the guest as a fund raising charity dinner for Chess Funds and also for honouring the Chess Players from the DATMO... It was a pleasant moment for me. And I shall write about that later on....
